Liberty Wins Final Non-Conference Game of the Season

LYNCHBURG, Va.- Liberty won its last non-conference game of the season against DII West Chester 61-42.
The Lady Flames jumped out to a 5-2 start in the game. West Chester’s Gabrielle Troisi scored a layup to cut the lead to a one-point deficit with 4:31 left in the first quarter, 9-8. Liberty went on a 9-2 to take an 18-10 lead at the end of the quarter.

West Chester’s Destiny Jefferson scored a layup cut the lead to 18-14 at the beginning of the second quarter. Liberty scored four points under the nine-minute mark to extend its lead to 22-14. Katherine Fisher scored a 3-point shot for the Golden Rams to cut the lead to 22-18 with 6:02 left in the second quarter. The Lady Flames dominated the rest of the quarter and held the Golden Rams to only two points. Liberty led West Chester 34-21 at halftime.

The Lady Flames struggled in the third quarter as the Golden Rams attempted to make a comeback. West Chester scored 14 points in the quarter while Liberty only scored nine. Troisi’s jumper trimmed the score to 11 points at the 3:11 mark, 41-30. The Golden Rams went on a 7-2 run to make it an eight-point game at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Flames rallied in the first minutes of the fourth quarter four consecutive points. West Chester continued to cut the score to 10 until the 3:37 mark of the quarter. Liberty took control of the final minutes to win its second straight game of the season.

Mya McMillian and KK Barbour both combined for 20 points. It was McMillian’s first time in her career to score in double-figures in a game. She is also the seventh player this season to achieve that milestone. Barbour added a career-high 15 rebounds to achieve her second double-double of the season. Ashtyn Baker matched a season high with three steals. In Liberty’s last 17 games, the Nesbit, Mississippi native has recorded at least one steal per game. The Lady Flames improve to 4-9 on the season.

The Golden Rams drop to 4-10 on the season. Zhane Snow led West Chester in double-figures with 13 points. The Golden Rams had two players that achieved team highs in the game. Troisi had a team-high seven rebounds and Jefferson had a team-high five assists.
