Baylor led the Huskies 10-5 in middle of the first quarter. UConn cut the lead by two on a three-point shot made by Napheesa Collier with under the four-minute mark, 12-10. Baylor’s Chloe Jackson drained two consecutive jumpers to extend the lead 16-10. Two Huskies were fouled in the final minutes of the first quarter resulting in them going to the free-throw line. Collier scored one out of two free throws while Katie Lou Samuelson scored both to cut the score to 16-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Baylor went on a 6-0 run with eight minutes to in the second quarter extend the lead to 24-15. Collier scored a triple to make it a six-point game in the final three minutes, 26-20. Samuelson scored a last second layup make the game a one-point deficit at halftime, 30-29.
The Lady Bears led the Huskies 41-34 with six minutes left in the third quarter. Collier scored a jumper under the four-minute mark to cut the lead to 43-41. Baylor’s Juicy Landrum drained a three-pointer and the Lady Bears went on a 7-0 run to take their largest lead of the game, 50-41. UConn’s Christyn Williams drained two consecutive three pointers to make it a 51-47 game at the end of the third quarter.
Baylor began to pull away at the beginning of the fourth quarter. The Lady Bears used a 6-0 run to take 57-47 lead over UConn. Dangerfield’s three pointer with 3:31 left cut the score to 61-55, but it was not enough for the Huskies to make a comeback. Baylor went on to beat the No. 1 team for the first time in program history.
UConn lost its first game of the season and the first game since 2014. The Huskies are now 12-1 on the season. Collier posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. Samuelson also finished the game with a double-double that included 12 points and 11 rebounds. Dangerfield had 11 points and Megan Walker had 10 points.
Baylor improved to 10-1 on the season. Kalani Brown finished with 22 points and 11 rebounds resulting in her second double-double of the season. NaLyssa Smith scored 12 points while Landrum and Jackson both combined for 22 points.
