Liberty lost both games on its two-game road trip in North
Carolina. Both East Carolina and UNC Greensboro beat the Lady Flames on buzzer
beaters.
Versus East Carolina

GREENVILLE, N.C.- Liberty lost at East Carolina 66-63 in Greenville, N.C after
leading most of the game.
The Lady Flames had the best start in the first quarter.
Liberty’s Mya McMillian sunk a layup to tie the game at 2-2. The Lady Flames
took their first lead of the game after two free throws made by KK Barbour to
extend the lead at 4-2. Liberty scored 6 out of 9 shots to lead 18-13 at the
end of the quarter.
East Carolina’s Lashonda Monk drained a three-pointer to cut
the lead to 18-16 at the beginning of the second quarter. Ria Gulley responded
by sinking in a three-pointer to extend Liberty’s lead 21-16 with 7:58 to go.
The Lady Flames scored 4 out of 15 shots and a perfect 4 out of 4 from the free
throw line. Liberty led East Carolina 31-24 at halftime.
Liberty went on a 5-0 run in the final minutes of the third quarter
to take a 49-42 lead. Necole Hope drained
a layup for East Carolina in the final 10 seconds to cut it to 49-44.
The Pirates came out hot in the fourth quarter. Raven
Johnson scored a layup to tie the game at 58-58 while earning a chance for a
three-point play after being fouled by
Baker. She scored a free-throw to bring
East Carolina back in the lead, 59-58. Johnson later fouled Liberty’s Emily
Lytle, and she scored two free throws to
bring the Lady Flames back within a one-point deficit, 60-59. Monk scored a
layup on the assist and steal by Justice Gee to bring the Pirates back on top,
63-60. Gulley tied the game at 63-63 before the shot clock expired. East
Carolina called a timeout with four seconds to go. Gee scored a three-pointer
at the buzzer giving the Pirates the 66-63 victory over the Lady Flames.
Liberty dropped to 2-7 overall on the season. Both Baker and
Gulley combined for 26 points. Lytle also finished in double-figures with 11
points. The Lady Flames were without Bridgette Rettstatt who sustained a
concussion in practice the day before the game.
East Carolina improved to 6-2 on the season. Monk was the
leading scorer with 16 points for the Pirates.

Versus UNC Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Liberty dropped its second game in the state of North
Carolina to UNC Greensboro 48-45.
The LadyFlames had a fantastic start in the
first 10 minutes of the game. Liberty went on a 7-0 run to lead the Spartans
7-2. The Lady Flames took a 10-6 lead at the end of the first quarter.
UNC Greensboro was on
fire in the second quarter. The Spartans cut the lead to a one-point deficit three
times throughout the quarter (11-10 (7:28), 13-12 (5:54), 15-14 (3:06))
including a tie of 13 (13-13) with 5:18 left. UNC Greensboro took its first
lead after Amesha Miller sank a jumper to give the Spartans a 16-15 lead.
Mangela Ngandjui scored a layup with 37 seconds left and UNC Greensboro led Liberty
18-15 at halftime.
Liberty got back in the game in the third quarter. Liberty’s
KK Barbour tied the game at 23-23 with 6:49 left. UNC Greensboro took back the
lead with a free throw made by Cece Crudup, 24-23. Barbour tied the game again
with a three-pointer, 26-26. However, the Spartans never trailed and took the
35-31 lead at the end of the third quarter.
In the final quarter, Emily Lytle gave Liberty the lead by
sinking in two free throws with 6:50 left in the game, 38-37. Crudup followed
back with a layup to give UNC Greensboro the 39-38 lead. Throughout the fourth
quarter, there were four ties and four lead changes. Lytle’s jumper tied the
game 45-45 with seven seconds to go. After 30 seconds timeouts called by both
teams, UNC Greensboro’s Nadine Soliman scored a three-point buzzer beater to
help the Spartans to a 48-45 win over the Lady Flames.
Liberty is now 2-8 overall on the season. Barbour and Kierra
Johnson-Graham combined for 20 points. Lytle set a career-high in rebounds
after grabbing eight boards in the game. Liberty was once again without
Bridgette Rettstatt who sustained a concussion the day before the Lady Flames’
game against East Carolina.
UNC Greensboro improves to 5-6 on the season. Soliman led
the Spartans with a game-high 14 points.
