The Fighting Irish led 4-2 at the 8:18 mark of the first quarter after a jumper by Arike Ogunbowale. The two teams were tied three times in the first four minutes of the first quarter. After a shot made by Christyn Williams at the 6:39 mark, UConn began its run and never trailed Notre Dame for the rest of the game. At halftime, The Huskies took a 44-41 lead over the Fighting Irish.
In the second half, UConn scored 21 points in the third quarter and 24 points in the fourth quarter. The biggest obstacle throughout the game was foul trouble for both teams. UConn’s Napheesa Collier, Katie Lou Samuelson and Olivia Nelson-Ododa each had four fouls. Notre Dame’s Jessica Shepard, Marina Mabrey and Arike Ogunbowale also had four fouls. Ogunbowale was hit with a technical foul at the 4:23 due to different opinions about the call on the floor between her and UConn Head Coach Geno Auriemma. Williams led UConn to victory with 28 points. Collier had 16 points and 15 rebounds. Samuelson struggled in the first half, but she tallied 15 points in the second half. Crystal Dangerfield had 13 points while Megan Walker had 12 points. The Huskies are now 7-0 on the season. UConn leads Notre Dame 36-12 in the all-time series.
Notre Dame loses its first game of the season and drops to
7-1 overall. Jackie Young led the Fighting Irish with 18 points. The four other
starters also finished the game in double figures (Arike Ogunbowale (17), Jessica
Shepard (13), Marina Mabrey (11), Brianna Turner (10). Ogunbowale also grabbed
10 rebounds in the game.

South Carolina drops to 4-4 overall on the season. The
Gamecocks were led by Te’a Cooper, who finished the game in double figures with
16 points. Alexis Jennings and Lele Grissett combined for 22 points. Grissett
also finished in double figures with 10 rebounds. Tyasha Harris scored 10
points overall.
