NCAA Week 3 Postgame Results


UConn Holds Off DePaul in First Game of the Season at the XL Center
HARTFORD, Conn.- No. 2 UConn beat No. 16 DePaul 99-63 on Wednesday night in its first game of the season at the XL Center. The Blue Demons were also the first top-25 opponent of the season that the Huskies defeated.   Napheesa Collier led the way with 24 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists. All of the other UConn starters also scored in double figures (Katie Lou Samuelson (23), Christyn Williams (15), Megan Walker (13), Crystal Dangerfield (12)). UConn improves to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 at home.
DePaul started the game with a 5-2 lead at the 9:03 mark of the first quarter. By 7:11, UConn took the one-point lead (8-7) with Katie Lou Samuelson’s free throws. The Huskies began to put together a run to pull away from the Blue Demons. UConn scored 12 points on the fast break and 14 points in the paint. By the end of the first quarter, UConn led DePaul 32-15. DePaul was unable to make the comeback but did make an effort in the third quarter of the game. The Blue Demons led the quarter, scoring 27 points while the Huskies scored 25 points. Eleven of DePaul’s 27 points were scored off of four UConn turnovers. Despite the third quarter, the Huskies dominated with 21 points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

DePaul loses its first game on the road and drops to 4-3 overall. Ashton Millender led the Blue Demons with 15 points.

  •         Katie Lou Samuelson set an American Athletic Conference career record for made three-point shots after sinking her 308th career three-pointer in the game.


DePaul
  •         Four players have made at least 16 free throws this season (Kelly Campbell, Mart’e Grays (16-for-17), Chante Stonewall (19-for-21), Rebekah Dahlman (24-for-28).
  •        Ashton Millender scored her 218th career three-pointer and is now in fifth place for three-point shots in program history. She also became sixth all-time in career three-point shot attempts for the Blue Demons.

  •         UConn will travel to South Bend, Ind. for a No. 1 vs No. 2 matchup against No. 1 Notre Dame in the Jimmy V. Classic. The game will be on Sunday at 4 p.m.

Notre Dame Blows Out Iowa in ACC/BIG 10 Challenge

SOUTH BEND, Ind.- Notre Dame beat Iowa 105-71 in the ACC/BIG 10 Challenge on Thursday night. Marina Mabrey,  In the second quarter, both teams scored 17 points, but Notre Dame ended up taking a 45-34 lead at the half. The Fighting Irish displayed their dominance in the third quarter. Notre Dame scored 34 points to take its largest lead of the game, 79-48. In the fourth quarter, the Fighting Irish made it up to 101 points after a three-pointer scored by Danielle Cosgrove at the 3:39 mark. Ogunbowale led the team with 30 points. All the other starters for Notre Dame finished in double digits as well (Marina Mabrey (18), Jackie Young (15), Brianna Turner (14), Jessica Shepard (10)). The Fighting Irish improve to 7-0 overall.
who was playing in her second game of her senior season after sitting with an injury, scored the first six points for the Fighting Irish (6-2). Five other players contributed points to help Notre Dame to 28-17 at the end of the first quarter (Brianna Turner (7), Arike Ogunbowale (7), Kaitlyn Gilbert (3), Danielle Patterson (2), Jessica Shepard (2), Jackie Young (1)).

Iowa drops to 4-2 on the season. The Hawkeyes were lead by Megan Gustafson, who had 26 points and 10 rebounds. Tania Davis (15), Hannah Stewart (12) and Makenzie Meyer (1) all contributed to the double-digit scoring column.
