Liberty traveled to Lehigh (Bethlehem, Pa.) to compete in
the Christmas City Classic. The Lady Flames finished the tournament 0-2 after
falling to Charlotte and Norfolk State.

BETHLEHEM, Penn.- Liberty lost a close one to Charlotte 63-61 on Saturday.
Liberty tied the game at four with less than eight minutes to play in the first
quarter on a layup made by Bridgette Rettstatt . The Lady Flames took the lead
a minute later after a layup was scored by KK Barbour. Liberty continued to
lead in the first half and were up 30-28 at halftime. However, the Lady Flames
lead was snapped at the one-minute mark in the third quarter after a layup made
by Charlotte’s Mariah Linney (40-39). With eight seconds to go, Liberty tied
the game at 42 with a three-point shot by Emily Lytle. The 49ers begun to pull
away after being tied at 53 at the 1:30 mark of the fourth quarter. Charlotte’s
Lauren Harley scored two free throws with five seconds to go to help the team
to victory. The Lady Flames tried to make the comeback but were unsuccessful in
the end. Lytle was the leading score for the fourth time this season with 19
points. It was also the fifth time the sophomore has finished a game in double
digits. Rettstatt joined Lytle in the double-digit category with a career-high 15
points. The Ohio native also led the Lady Flames in rebounds (5). Liberty
dropped to 0-1 in the tournament and 1-4 overall.
Charlotte improved to 1-0 in the tournament and 3-1 overall
on the season. Octavia Jett-Wilson led the team with 18 points. Other
double-digit scorers included Linney (13) and Laia Raventos (15). Raventos also
led the team with four steals. The 49ers advanced to the championship round
where they beat Lehigh 62-60. Charlotte is now 4-1 overall this season.

BETHLEHEM, Penn.- Liberty lost in the consolation round of the Christmas City
Classic to Norfolk State 66-53 on Sunday. The Spartans scored 20 points in the
first quarter and 21 in the second quarter to take the lead at halftime
(41-29). The Lady Flames led in field goals in the second and third quarter (2nd
quarter: 6-rd quarter: 6-12). However, Norfolk State’s perfect
11-of-11 mark from the free throw line prevented a Liberty comeback. The
Spartans never trailed during the entire game. Liberty finished fourth in the
Christmas City Classic after the loss to Norfolk State. Ashtyn Baker led the
team with 12 points and Bridgette Rettstatt and Tatyana Crowder combined for 22
points. Rettstatt finished as the game leader in rebounds (9) and steals (2).
Liberty drops to 1-5 on the season.

Norfolk State won the consolation title and improved to 3-4
on the season. The Spartans lost their previous game to tournament host Lehigh
(62-41). Dana Echols and Raven Russell combined for 26 points. La’Deja James
De’Janaire Deas combined for 20 points and Khadedra Croker finished in double
digits with 11 points. Echols led the Spartans with seven assists. La’Deja
James finished as the leader in steals. Echols and Croker also combined for 12
rebounds.
