UConn Outscores Villanova to Advance to the BIG EAST Championship Game

LYNCHBURG, Va.- No. 4 UConn blew out Villanova 9-1 in the BIG EAST semifinals on Friday afternoon.

The Huskies, coached by Nancy Stevens, scored nine consecutive goals to shut down the Wildcats. The amount of goals made were he most made in a semifinal game in BIG EAST history.

 Maddy Wray, Svea Boker, and Abby Gooderham led the Huskies with two goals each. Defensive Player of the Year and senior defender Cecile Pieper scored her 22^nd goal of the season. Amanda Collins and Antonia Tiedtke both finished the game as leaders in assists (both had two each).  UConn will play for its seventh consecutive BIG EAST championship title on Sunday against Liberty.

UConn moves to 17-3 overall and improves to a 33 winning-streak in BIG EAST games.

 The Wildcats were held to just one goal in the game. Villanova’s goal was scored by forward Abby Siana, who also led the game in shots (3). Goalie Erika Miller finished the game with five saves making a total of 98 saves.

The Wildcats end their season with a 9-10 overall record. This was Villanova's first trip to the BIG EAST Tournament since 2013.
