STORRS, Conn.- No. 2 UConn dominated Ohio State 85-53 in their first game of the season at Gampel Pavilion.

 This is the 23rd consecutive time that the Huskies have won their season opener. In the first minutes of the game, UConn went on a 9-3 run and forced three turnovers against Ohio State. The Huskies also shot 52 percent from the floor and shut down the Buckeyes on the defensive end. UConn was led by Katie Lou Samuelson. The senior from Huntington Beach, California led the game with 19 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Three other Huskies also contributed to the victory with double digits. Crystal Dangerfield (18), Napheesa Collier (17), Megan Walker (15) combined for 50 of UConn’s points.

Ohio State drops to 1-2 on the season. This is also the second time the Buckeyes have lost to a team in the AP Top 25. Graduate transfer Carly Santoro led the Buckeyes with 20 points in the game.

Baylor at Arizona State (Fort Defiance, Ariz.)

FORT DEFIANCE, Ariz.- The game on Sunday in the Rez  was an outstanding game, especially for the fans who lived in the area. No. 4 Baylor and No. 22 Arizona State gathered at Bee Holdzil Fighting Scouts Events Center to play the game of basketball and celebrate the culture of Native Americans. 

Arizona State begin the surge in the game by putting pressure on Baylor. The Lady Bears mishandled the ball for the entire first half, committing eight turnovers. The Sun Devils took the 35-24 lead at halftime. 


Baylor gained momentum to begin the second half. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Bears went on a 12-0 run to lead the Sun Devils by eight points (55-47). Baylor’s second half dominance led to a 65-59 victory. NaLyssa Smith, who is making her debut season for the Lady Bears, came off the bench and scored 16 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and blocked one shot. Kalani Brown and Lauren Cox combined for 28 points to help Baylor pull out the win. The Lady Bears move to a perfect 3-0 record to start the season.

Arizona State drops its first game of the season and now has a 1-1 record. Kianna Ibis and Courtney Ekmark combined for 26 points.
