Against Ole Miss
ST. THOMAS, British Virgin Islands- UConn beat Ole Miss 90-50 in its first game of the Paradise
Jam on Thursday. The Huskies was dominate on the defensive end causing Ole Miss
to shoot 32.3 percent throughout the game. UConn also forced 10 turnovers and
grabbed 44 boards to prevail in the game. For the third time this season, the
Huskies have won a game by a 32 to 40-point margin. Katie Lou Samuelson led the
team with 22 points and five assists. All the other starters also finished the
game in double digit scoring (Napheesa Collier (18), Christyn Williams (13),
Megan Walker (12), Crystal Dangerfield (10)). Olivia Nelson-Ododa was the only
player from the bench to score in double-digits (11). Collier grabbed 10 boards
all on the defensive end. UConn got, its first win in the Paradise Jam (1-0) to
improve to 3-0 overall on the season.
Ole Miss (3-2) lost its second game of the season. Shannon
Dozier and Crystal Allen combined for 22 points. Mimi Reid and Gabby Crawford
combined for 12 rebounds. The Rebels lost their final two games in the Paradise
Jam to Purdue (70-59) and St. John’s (64-59). Ole Miss finishes the tournament
0-3 and is now 3-4 overall on the season.

Against St. John’s
ST. THOMAS, British Virgin Islands- UConn earned another victory in a close game against St.
John’s on Friday. The Red Storm took a 16-12 lead against the Huskies after the
first quarter. UConn used a 7-0 run at
the 5:28 mark in the second quarter to take the eight-point lead over St.
John’s (26-18). The beginning of the second half was crucial for both teams
with five lead changes and four ties. The game was tied at 47 after Crystal
Dangerfield’s two free throws. St. John’s took a four-point lead at the
beginning of the fourth quarter when Kadaja Bailey scored back-to-back layups
(51-47). The Red Storm had the lead until the 7:15 mark when UConn went on an
18-4 run to pull out the 65-55 victory. Katie Lou Samuelson was the leading
scorer for the second time during the tournament with 19 points. Teammates
Dangerfield (14) and Napheesa Collier (17) both scored in double digits too.
Collier led the way with her effort in rebounds (9) and assists (6). After the
win, UConn improved to 2-0 in the Paradise Jam and 4-0 overall on the season.
St. John’s fell to 1-1 in the Paradise Jam and 3-1 overall
this season. Tiana England led the Red Storm with 13 points and six assists. Other
double-digit scorers included Bailey (11) and Alisha Kebbe (12). Bailey also
led the team with nine rebounds and two steals. Before playing UConn, St.
John’s beat Purdue 68-62. The Red Storm finished the Paradise Jam with a 64-59
win over Ole Miss. St. John’s finishes the tournament 2-1 and improves to 4-1
overall on the season.

Against Purdue
ST. THOMAS, British Virgin Islands- UConn beat Purdue 86-40 to win the Paradise Jam title on
Saturday. The Huskies led throughout the entire game, scoring between 16-28
points in each quarter. The lead was 3-2 under the nine-minute mark of the
first quarter, but UConn would take a 12-4 lead at the 7:30 mark following a
3-pointer from Katie Lou Samuelson. The Huskies shot 28 points in the first
quarter making it hard for the Boilmakers to make a comeback. Samuelson led for
the third consecutive time in points (22). Napheesa Collier (19) and Christyn
Williams (17) also contributed to UConn’s double-digit scoring. Collier grabbed
10 rebounds and led in that category for the third consecutive time in the
tournament. The last time the O’Fallon, Missouri senior had this number of
rebounds was in the Huskies game against Ole Miss. UConn finishes the Paradise
Jam 3-0 and improves to 5-0 overall.
Purdue drops its second game of the season (5-2). Dominique
Oden and Kayana Traylor combined for 24 points. Ae’Rianna Harris led in the
rebounding category with eight. The Boilmakers lost their first game in the
Paradise Jam to St. John’s but won 70-59 against Ole Miss. Purdue finishes the
tournament 1-2.
